KiK lists the „ICH WEISS WAS!” edition nationally
OCTOBER 2009
KiK Textiles & Non-Food GmbH has included the twelve-part “ICH WEISS WAS!” audio book into its range nationally with immediate effect. This latest non-fiction series, at the amazing price of only €1.99 per CD, proves that knowledge is not just affordable but also fun because the drudge of education in Germany is a recurrent media theme. There has been a lack of ideas and offers since before the economic crisis for promoting opportunities for children from low-income families and enabling positive access to learning.
The offer from SILAG Handel AG, which together with the Bertelsmann subsidiary company Random House Audio developed this audio book edition for children from 5 years old, fills this gap. Twelve subject areas have been cleverly and playfully prepared for this target group. Under the title “ICH WEISS WAS”, expert Albert E leads you through the Middle Ages, describes great inventions like the hot-air balloon, railways and cars, travels through the universe and the human body and knows as much about the world of dinosaurs as he does about pets, horses and ponies, about the world of pirates, the jungle, the farm and the oceans. The motto “knowledge is affordable” is also the programme. At the low price of €1.99 education and knowledge are thus freed of any appearance of elitism and become as much a routine part of everyday life as a packet of biscuits or a bag of crisps, available at the same price but with decisive additional benefits. The “ICH WEISS WAS!” series makes you smart, not fat.
It is not just the younger listeners who benefit from a purchase because every customer also makes a contribution for the future of children in need: five cents from every CD purchased go to the „Help and Hope” foundation. The revenue share from the total publication of the “ICH WEISS WAS!” series is €50 000, which supports the building of the first of the foundation’s own care institutions, the “Haus der Zukunft” [House of the Future] in Dortmund-Scharnhorst. It offers help to children from socially deprived families and supports them in developing a positive perspective on the future.
The project is supported by a celebrity patron: Jean Pütz, science journalist and Chair of the Science Press Conference, appreciates and supports the work of the two initiators, Siegfried Lapawa, Chair of the Board of SILAG Handel AG, and Karl Heinz Pütz, Publishing Director of Random House Audio, as a meaningful and appropriate step towards active promotion of education.
