„Back to the roots” – the household goods sector lives!
NOVEMBER 2012 The history of today’s SILAG Handel AG started in 1985 with the founding of Nivella cutlery-parts production in Solingen: 27 years later, it stays true to its roots and sells around 1 million pans of its own brands “Nivella”, “Steinberger” and “KüchenMeister”. Even back then the company’s main goal was to satisfy customers with the highest quality products. None of this has changed even today. Traditionally, the maxim “We offer qualitatively high-value cookware in functional and tasteful designs for households and for ambitious chefs” applies to SILAG. This is a good basis for enjoyment in cooking. The varied range of hardware sets the bar high, especially for households. The range … Continue reading →

FEBRUARY 2012 The Solingen Investor and businessman Siegfried Lapawa committed himself in grand style to the structural renovation of the listed building the “Tradition House” in Solingen, which used to be the “Tückmantel House”. Investment of €6.5 million eventually flowed into the renovation, extension and preservation of his building project. There were many obstacles to be overcome. “For me it is a large but important investment in preserving the cultural essence of my home town”, explains Siegfried Lapawa. He has now been thanked for that. The Bergische History Association of Solingen, represented by the historian Mrs. Dr. Beate Battenfeld, awarded him this year’s Listed Building Protection Prize 2012 for these efforts. Over two thousand square metres of premium space … Continue reading →
Helicopter Pier Scheveningen
JANUARY 2012 In July last year, a fire of unknown cause devastated the Holland Casino in the heart of Scheveningen – probably the best-known of seaside towns, a few kilometres from the seat of the Dutch royal family, The Hague. The first thing you notice on the beach at Scheveningen is the 381 metre-long pier. Because of the great destruction by the fire, it was decided to demolish the old building. The rubble thus created, classified as hazardous waste, was to be taken by special-purpose vessel for recycling. However, because the water was too shallow, the ship could not approach the jetty. The solution was a freight helicopter operation. December 2011: rough … Continue reading →
