„Back to the roots” – the household goods sector lives!

NOVEMBER 2012 The histo­ry of today’s SILAG Han­del AG star­ted in 1985 with the foun­ding of Nivel­la cutlery-parts pro­duc­tion in Solin­gen: 27 years later, it stays true to its roots and sells around 1 mil­li­on pans of its own brands “Nivel­la”, “Stein­ber­ger” and “Küchen­Meis­ter”. Even back then the company’s main goal was to satisfy cus­to­mers with the hig­hest qua­li­ty pro­ducts. None of this has chan­ged even today. Tra­di­tio­nal­ly, the maxim “We offer qua­li­ta­tively high-value cook­wa­re in func­tio­n­al and tas­te­ful designs for house­holds and for ambi­tious chefs” app­lies to SILAG. SILAG receives Red Dot Design Award

JULY 2012 SILAG recei­ves the „Red Dot Award: Pro­duct Design”, cove­ted the world over, for the gar­den wate­ring design of the future. The North-Rhine West­pha­lia Design Cent­re reco­gnis­ed the SILAG pro­duct „Car­re­ra Green­mas­ter Hose Con­nec­tor” in July 2012 with the „Red Dot Award: Pro­duct Design 2012”, a qua­li­ty seal ack­now­led­ged and cove­ted the world over. In addi­ti­on to tal­king pure­ly about style, reco­gnis­ed experts also tes­ted the feel of the pro­ducts and their func­tio­n­a­li­ty and exami­ned the eco­lo­gi­cal sus­taina­bi­li­ty. Awarding of ‘2012 Listed Building Prize’

FEBRUARY 2012 The Solin­gen Inves­tor and busi­ness­man Sieg­fried Lapa­wa com­mit­ted hims­elf in grand style to the struc­tu­ral reno­va­ti­on of the lis­ted buil­ding the “Tra­di­ti­on House” in Solin­gen, which used to be the “Tück­man­tel House”. Invest­ment of €6.5 mil­li­on even­tual­ly flowed into the reno­va­ti­on, exten­si­on and pre­ser­va­ti­on of his buil­ding pro­ject. The­re were many obsta­cles to be over­co­me. “For me it is a lar­ge but important invest­ment in pre­ser­ving the cul­tu­ral essence of my home town”, exp­lains Sieg­fried Lapa­wa. He has now been thank­ed for that. The Ber­gi­sche Histo­ry Asso­cia­ti­on of Solin­gen, repre­sen­ted by the his­to­ri­an Mrs. Dr. Bea­te Bat­ten­feld, awar­ded him this year’s Lis­ted Buil­ding Pro­tec­tion Pri­ze 2012 for the­se efforts. JANUARY 2012 In July last year, a fire of unknown cau­se devas­ta­ted the Hol­land Casi­no in the heart of Sche­ven­in­gen – pro­bab­ly the best-known of sea­si­de towns, a few kilo­me­tres from the seat of the Dut­ch roy­al fami­ly, The Hague. The first thing you noti­ce on the beach at Sche­ven­in­gen is the 381 metre-long pier. Becau­se of the gre­at dest­ruc­tion by the fire, it was deci­ded to demo­lish the old buil­ding. The rub­ble thus crea­ted, clas­si­fied as hazar­dous was­te, was to be taken by special-purpose ves­sel for recy­cling.
