SILAG employee is first woman to win the GT3 race
JULY 2010
The third weekend of the FIA GT3 European Championship in Jarama in Spain finished successfully for the ADAC GT Masters drivers and teams. The race was started on a wet surface and was controlled by the two bright-green BMW Alpinas from the first lap. At the start, Maxime Martin in his first ADAC GT Masters race wrested the lead from team-mate Jens Klingmann. Martin opened up a gap in the first lap on Klingmann, who was battling with a misfiring engine, and he handed over the B6 while it was in the lead to Claudia Hürtgen. The speedy woman from Aachen secured the win and became the first woman on the list of winners of the ADAC GT Masters.
“Maxime drove a great start. It was relatively easy today to finish the win off”, said a rejoicing Hürtgen. “In the first five laps I tried to increase our advantage so that I could bring the lead home under control. We couldn’t get past a competitor in the early phase and decided to change the strategy”, explained Claudia Hürtgen, who became the first woman on the list of winners of the ADAC GT Masters.
“That’s why we chose to change drivers. That was the key to the win because it meant we had a clear track in the second half of the race. “I am just happy! A super day for us, for the Schubert Team, who have worked hard, and also for BMW. On the third race weekend of the FIA GT3 season, we can celebrate the first success of the newly designed BMW Z4 GT3 Coupé.”
